Idea screening: How to filter product ideas and make more confident decisions
UX Research Glossary / Ideation
Share
Ideation is the first stage in the UX design and development process. It involves generating ideas for improving existing products or developing new ones. These ideas are brainstormed based on information from internal sources, such as Marketing or Customer Support, and feedback collected from external sources, such as customer interviews or surveys. Not all ideas will result in final products—ideas need to be tested with users to ensure they’re required and beneficial.
Some UX research methods for the ideation stage of product design and development include:
- Concept testing: to validate product, design, and marketing ideas early on
- Surveys: to get initial feedback from users on proposed ideas
- Customer interviews: to chat with users one-on-one about potential developments
